Description: Built in 1969, this 41 year old facility underwent a 1.5 million dollar renovation in 1997. Our year round arena features an official NHL 200' x 85' surface and now boasts a clean air Model 552, 2004 Electric Zamboni. It also features a full service pro shop,"state of the art" sound system, two jump harnesses,and a muti-purpose room with a rubber floor and ballet mirrors. Our nationally recognized Learn to Skate program features the standards of the Ice Skating Institute and is designed to progressively teach your child the fundementals of skating.The arena offers 12 hours of Learn to Skate weekly instructed by a well trained staff with over 200 years experience. The program is headed by Director of Skating, David Santee. The Learn to Skate program also prepares skaters for enrollment in our competitive affiliate programs. Oakton's Learn to Skate program and its affiliates have produced many Olympic, World, National & Collegiate level skaters. In addition the arena also offers 18 hours of public sessions,42 hours of competitive practice time, Little Steamers Learn to Play Hockey, and the rebirth of the Park Ridge Hornets House league hockey club. Our Affiliates: The Northern Express Hockey Association (Travel) plays in the Northern Illinois Hockey League and currently fields 13 teams. The Club practices twice a week at Oakton and is coached by 4 time Olympian Nancy Sweider-Peltz. The Oakton Figure Skating Club is the host of the annual ISI Ice Breaker Classic Figure Skating Competition. The Club offers Adult classes as well as clinics hosted by nationally known coaches and experts in fields pertaining to skating.
